BJP is the ‘A team’ of Kerala, says Modi at campaign meet

On March 29, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a significant address at a public rally in Palakkad, Kerala, intensifying the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) campaign ahead of the crucial Kerala Assembly elections scheduled for April 9. Speaking to a large crowd gathered at Fort Grounds, Modi sharply criticized both the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), accusing them of decades-long misgovernance, corruption, and depriving the people of Kerala of development and opportunities.

Modi framed the political contest as a choice between the entrenched, corrupt practices of the two established fronts and the promise of a new, development-focused government under the NDA. He pointed out that the LDF and UDF have alternated in power for many years but failed to deliver real progress to the people of Kerala. According to Modi, this political duopoly has relied on vote-bank politics and has engaged in corrupt practices, which have led to the state's economic stagnation and increasing debt.

Highlighting the financial mismanagement under the current LDF government, Modi alleged that Kerala's debt has tripled over the past decade, reaching approximately ₹5 lakh crore. He claimed that public funds were being siphoned into the pockets of the ruling party rather than used for the welfare of the state's citizens. Modi vowed that an NDA government would recover these funds and redirect them towards the development and prosperity of Kerala.

Modi also addressed the issue of youth migration, a significant concern for Kerala, where many educated young people leave the state in search of better opportunities. He promised that the NDA government would create ample opportunities within Kerala, thereby curbing outward migration and promoting local growth. This vision of a "Viksit Kerala" (developed Kerala) was presented as a central theme of the NDA's campaign, with Modi giving a personal guarantee to the people, emphasizing, "It is Modi's guarantee to you. The NDA's guarantee is Modi's guarantee."

In a strategic move, Modi dismissed the mutual accusations between the UDF and LDF that label each other as the BJP's "B-team." He argued that these claims inadvertently acknowledge the BJP as the real "A-team" in Kerala politics, positioning the NDA as the genuine alternative to the traditional political fronts.

Modi drew attention to the failures of both the Congress and the Left parties, not only in Kerala but also in other states. He referenced the Left's governance records in West Bengal and Tripura and the Congress's national performance, highlighting what he described as a consistent pattern of corruption and poor governance. To contrast this, he presented the BJP's focus on women-led development, citing the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a law aimed at empowering women, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Modi criticized Congress leaders for obstructing women's progress and safety, portraying the BJP as the party committed to advancing gender equality.

Acknowledging the contributions and struggles of Palakkad's paddy farmers, Modi criticized the current state government for its failure to support the agricultural community adequately. He accused the LDF of trapping farmers in debt rather than providing assistance, promising that an NDA government would alleviate these burdens and offer genuine support. Modi reiterated this promise as part of his personal commitment to the people, calling it "Modi's guarantee."

In addition to promises of development and support for farmers and youth, Modi pledged to expose corruption involving both the LDF and UDF if the BJP comes to power in Kerala. He asserted that while both fronts are engaged in looting and corruption, they have never held each other accountable. Modi assured voters that the BJP would pursue investigations and bring to light the misdeeds of both political rivals to ensure justice and transparency.

This rally in Palakkad was a key moment in the NDA's campaign, showcasing the party's candidates from the district and rallying public support under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. His speech reflected a broader strategy to position the BJP-led NDA as the only credible alternative to the traditional political powers in Kerala, promising a future of development, good governance, and social empowerment.

The Kerala Assembly elections on April 9, 2026, are shaping up to be a pivotal contest, with the NDA seeking to break the longstanding dominance of the LDF and UDF. Modi's address underscored the BJP's commitment to transforming Kerala's political and economic landscape, appealing to voters frustrated with the status quo and seeking a new direction for the state.
