On November 24, 2025, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar voiced serious concerns regarding the declining public trust in government hospitals, highlighting critical shortages and mismanagement issues within the state-run healthcare system. Speaking in Jammikunta, Karimnagar district, after handing over medical equipment worth ₹1 crore to the local Community Health Centre, Mr. Sanjay painted a troubling picture of the healthcare delivery challenges faced by government facilities, particularly emphasizing the lack of essential medical supplies and underutilization of central government funds.
According to the Minister, many State-run hospitals are struggling to maintain basic healthcare provisions due to shortages of fundamental items such as syringes, essential medicines, and anti-rabies vaccines. This shortage, he argued, is a significant factor contributing to the erosion of public confidence in government healthcare institutions. The poor and middle-class populations, who predominantly depend on these public hospitals for affordable healthcare, are directly affected by this crisis. Mr. Sanjay urged doctors and medical staff to treat patients with utmost care and compassion to help restore faith in the system.
A key element of Mr. Sanjay’s critique was the State government’s apparent failure to effectively utilize the substantial funds released by the Central government under the National Health Mission (NHM). The NHM is designed to support and improve public health infrastructure, but according to the Minister, the funds allocated to the State have not been properly spent, resulting in subpar healthcare services. This underutilization stands in stark contrast to the Central government’s efforts, which continue to prioritize healthcare improvements through funding and equipment provision.
In a positive development, Mr. Sanjay highlighted the contribution of NMDC Limited, a public sector undertaking, which has supported the purchase and supply of advanced medical equipment worth ₹4 crore to several government hospitals in the region, including those in Vemulawada, Jammikunta, Huzurabad, and Husnabad. The equipment handed over to the Jammikunta Community Health Centre included vital medical devices such as an ECG machine, ultrasound scanning machine, and diathermy machine. These additions are expected to enhance diagnostic and treatment capabilities significantly.
Further promising improvements, Mr. Sanjay announced plans to provide an X-ray machine funded through the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to the Jammikunta hospital. He emphasized that the new medical technology must be utilized effectively to ensure quality healthcare services for patients. The Minister’s visits to government hospitals in Huzurabad and Husnabad later the same day saw similar handovers of medical equipment worth ₹1 crore to each facility, reinforcing his commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure.
Apart from healthcare, Mr. Sanjay addressed other local issues, notably the collapse of a check dam in Gumpula village of Peddapalli district that occurred four days prior. He strongly condemned the construction practices behind such infrastructure projects, accusing the State government of prioritizing commissions and payments to large contractors over the welfare of farmers. According to him, this has led to the use of substandard materials and poor workmanship, causing check dams to collapse. He cited similar incidents in Rajanna Sircilla and Karimnagar districts as evidence of a systemic problem. Mr. Sanjay called upon the State’s Congress government to conduct thorough inquiries into these failures and to take strict action against those responsible.
In addition to healthcare and infrastructure concerns, Mr. Sanjay mentioned ongoing proposals for the construction of a sports stadium and the modernization of the railway station in Jammikunta, signaling efforts to improve public amenities and local development.
Through his remarks and actions, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar painted a complex picture of the challenges and opportunities facing public health and infrastructure in Telangana. While underscoring the shortcomings of the State government in efficiently utilizing central funds and ensuring quality construction, he also showcased the positive impact of Central government initiatives and public sector contributions to improving healthcare facilities. His appeal to medical professionals for compassionate care and his commitment to bringing modern equipment to rural hospitals reflect a broader goal of restoring public trust and enhancing the delivery of essential services to the people.
This series of events and statements from the Minister highlight the ongoing tension between Central and State governments in managing public resources and delivering services effectively. The situation underscores the critical importance of transparency, accountability, and proper fund management in public health and infrastructure sectors to meet the needs of the population, especially the vulnerable sections who rely heavily on government support.
