Ajit Singh Chaudhary, a 21-year-old MBBS student from Alwar, Rajasthan, who was studying at Buxar State University in Ufa, Russia, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances nearly three weeks after he went missing. Ajit’s disappearance and subsequent death have left his family and community devastated, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Ajit belonged to Kafanwada village in Laxmangarh, Alwar. His family had high hopes for his future, having sold three bighas of land to fund his medical education abroad. Ajit was pursuing an MBBS degree in Russia, aiming to become a doctor. According to reports, he had been missing since the night of October 19, 2025. On that day, around 11 pm, Ajit left his hostel room to get milk from the warden but never returned. His roommate later informed the local police about his disappearance.
Just an hour before disappearing, Ajit had a video call with his mother, Santara Devi, and sister, Geeta, in which he wished them a happy Diwali. This call was the last contact the family had with him. The family had been eagerly awaiting his return to India, as Ajit was scheduled to visit next month. The sudden and unexplained loss has deeply shocked them.
On October 20, Russian police began searching for Ajit near a riverbank in Ufa. They recovered his jacket and mobile phone from the riverbank, followed by his shoes found nearby a few hours later. These discoveries heightened concerns about his fate. Despite these findings, there was no immediate explanation for his disappearance.
Tragically, on November 6, 2025, Ajit’s body was found in a dam near Ufa, confirming the worst fears of his family. The circumstances surrounding his death remain suspicious. Ajit’s uncle told the media that after speaking with the warden, it seemed an attempt was being made to suggest that Ajit had jumped into the river, but no definitive confirmation or evidence has been provided to substantiate this claim. The family suspects that something more sinister may have occurred and are calling for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The news of Ajit’s death has drawn significant attention from political leaders and the wider community back home in India. Jitendra Singh, a Congress leader from Alwar, expressed his deep distress and condolences on social media. In his statement, Singh highlighted the hopes and sacrifices Ajit’s family made to send him abroad for education. He pointed out that the discovery of Ajit’s clothes, mobile phone, and shoes near the riverbank about 19 days ago, followed by the recovery of his body, are cause for grave concern.
Singh criticized the suspicious circumstances surrounding Ajit’s death and urged the Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs, led by Minister S. Jaishankar, to intervene promptly. He appealed for Ajit’s body to be repatriated to India as soon as possible and stressed the need for a thorough and serious investigation to uncover the truth behind this unfortunate incident. Singh underscored that Ajit’s family has already suffered enough and should not be burdened further by bureaucratic delays.
The entire village of Kafanwada and the broader community in Alwar are mourning the loss of a promising young man whose dreams were cut short. Ajit was seen as a beacon of hope for his family, who had invested their limited resources and savings in his education. The emotional toll on his parents, Roop Singh and Santara Devi, and the extended family is immense, as they grapple with grief and unanswered questions.
The case has also raised broader concerns about the safety and welfare of Indian students studying abroad, particularly in countries like Russia, where many students go to pursue medical degrees. Families often send their children abroad with high hopes but limited knowledge of the challenges and risks they might face in unfamiliar environments. Ajit’s death highlights the vulnerabilities faced by overseas students and the need for better support systems and protection mechanisms.
As investigations continue in Russia, the Indian government is being urged to coordinate closely with Russian authorities to ensure a transparent inquiry. The circumstances of Ajit’s disappearance and death—whether accidental, suicidal, or otherwise—must be clarified to provide closure to his family and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Ajit’s story is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless families who invest everything they have to secure
