13 dead as dumper truck ploughs into multiple vehicles in Rajasthan

On November 3, 2025, a tragic road accident in Jaipur, Rajasthan, claimed the lives of 13 people and injured 10 others in a horrific chain collision caused by a rashly driven dumper truck. The incident occurred in the Harmada area near Loha Mandi in Jaipur, leaving behind a scene described by witnesses as a massacre, with bodies strewn across the road, mangled vehicles, and crushed motorbikes. The driver of the dumper truck, alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol, lost control and rammed into at least 17 vehicles over a 300-metre stretch before finally crashing into a trailer on the Delhi-Ajmer Highway.

The accident took place on a Monday afternoon and instantly turned the highway into a chaotic and bloodied scene. According to eyewitnesses, the driver recklessly sped along Road No. 14 towards the Loha Mandi petrol pump, hitting vehicles and pedestrians indiscriminately. Locals recounted how the driver initially collided with a car, after which he accelerated further, hitting more vehicles and even pedestrians and motorcyclists. The driver eventually came to a stop only after crashing into a trailer truck and another car. The crowd quickly apprehended the driver and handed him over to the police authorities.

Jaipur District Collector Jitendra Soni confirmed the death toll and injuries, stating that the injured were being treated at the trauma centre of SMS Hospital, with several in critical condition. Additional Police Commissioner Rajiv Pachar, present at the scene, described the driver's behavior as reckless and indicated that the possibility of intoxication was being investigated, though the final determination would depend on medical tests as the driver himself was injured. CCTV footage reviewed by authorities showed the dumper truck speeding at over 100 kilometers per hour, violently colliding with multiple vehicles and crushing motorbikes beneath its wheels.

The victims included members of a family from Agra who were returning from a pilgrimage at Khatushyamji. Nanji Bhai, one of the injured survivors, recounted how their car was parked on the roadside when the dumper struck them from behind, causing injuries to five family members. Another tragic story emerged from the relatives of Mahendra, a 38-year-old weaver from Jaipur. Mahendra had accompanied his nieces Varsha, 19, and Bhanu, 5, to the bus stand to return to their hometown after celebrating Diwali with their uncle. The accident occurred at that moment, resulting in the deaths of Mahendra and young Bhanu, while Varsha was hospitalized in the trauma centre.

The horrific accident sparked protests among local residents who demanded stricter enforcement of road safety laws to prevent such tragedies in the future. The incident also brought attention to the larger issue of road safety in Rajasthan, as it was the second major road accident within a week in the state. Just the day before, a tempo traveller crashed into a stationary trailer truck in the Phalodi area, killing at least 15 people, including 10 women and four children, and injuring two others.

In response to the Jaipur accident, Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. He took to the social media platform X to convey his condolences and to emphasize the seriousness of the incident. Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa, along with former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, also expressed their sorrow and solidarity with the victims’ families.

At the national level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced ex gratia payments to support the families affected by the accident. According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured would receive ₹50,000 each. The Prime Minister’s message on X highlighted his concern for the families who lost loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.

She extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of those hospitalized. The President’s message, posted in Hindi on X, reflected the nation’s shared grief over the tragic event.
