'Big John' Fisher, a British social media personality known for his viral fast food reviews and his signature catchphrase "bosh," has been detained in Australia due to a visa issue.
Fisher arrived in Western Australia on a Tuesday to begin a tour of the country but was soon informed that he would be deported back to London.
Despite holding a legitimate visa, Australian border officials expressed concerns about him working during his visit, leading to his detention and cancellation of scheduled appearances in Perth and Sydney.
Fisher reported being questioned by border officials for four hours before the decision was made.
In social media posts, he expressed his disappointment and said he would provide more details once he returned home.
He apologized to fans in Perth and Sydney for having to cancel his events.
The BBC reached out to the Australian Border Force for comment on the situation.
On the morning following his detention, which coincided with his 52nd birthday, Fisher shared his experience of being held in a detention hotel while awaiting deportation.
Despite the circumstances, he maintained a positive attitude, stating that he was still smiling and loved Australia, signing off with his well-known slogan "bosh." His son, British heavyweight boxer Johnny Fisher, confirmed via Instagram that his father would be flown back to the UK, humorously suggesting that Australian authorities might be wary of his "express pace bowling ahead of the Ashes."
Fisher was scheduled to participate in four events across Australia, including hosting a "Bucking Bull" challenge at a greyhound race in Sydney and performing a DJ set at a horse racing meet in Perth.
With a substantial social media following—nearly 700,000 on Instagram and over half a million on TikTok—he is widely recognized for filming himself eating meals and providing brief reviews that end with his catchphrase.
Recently, he was featured on BBC's Newsnight discussing a Chinese takeaway in York that had been vandalized, subsequently visiting the establishment to show support and sharing a review of its food.
